Department of Pharmacy

The pharmacy department at KHCC focuses on providing comprehensive, safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to all patients treated at KHCC, and aims to serve as a model for state-of-the-art pharmaceutical care in Jordan by seeking continuous growth as a leading pharmaceutical department in the areas of patient care, teaching, and pharmaceutical research.

Clinical operations section services

The clinical operations services consist of several pharmacies that support the pharmacy operational functions in the inpatient and outpatient settings. It includes the inpatient pharmacy, the sterile preparations pharmacy, the operating room pharmacy, outpatient pharmacy services, and the chemotherapy pharmacy.

Inpatient pharmacy

A team of trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians work around the clock to review all types of medication orders, prepare medications and dispense them with proper drug-related information and clinical input whenever needed.

Sterile preparations area

A team of trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians works around the clock to prepare parenteral medications in a patient tailored, ready-to-administer form under aseptic techniques in a clean room setting as per the international standards with providing administration related information to the medical team.

Chemotherapy pharmacy

A team of trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians works to review chemotherapy protocols and prepare chemotherapeutic medications in a patient tailored, ready-to-administer form under safe aseptic techniques in a clean room setting per international standards, and dispense them with providing administration related information to the medical team and clinical input whenever needed.

Outpatient pharmacies

A team of trained pharmacists and pharmacy technicians works to review all types of medication order prescriptions, prepare medications and dispense them with proper counseling, drug related information and clinical input whenever needed.

Refill of chronic medications prescriptions

For chronic medications, refill prescriptions are provided to outpatients through the medication home order system via medication specific courier service, where patients receive their refilled medications at the comfort of their homes. Whereas Patients receiving chemotherapy sessions at the outpatient unit receive their chronic medications at bedside during their infusion time.

Clinical pharmacy section services

Clinical pharmacists covering all inpatient services and some outpatient clinics are responsible for assuring safe and effective medication use for all inpatients. Through reviewing all patients’ medication orders, conducting clinical discussions with the medical team on a daily basis and providing comprehensive therapeutic care plans for patients’ medications. They also provide counseling for patients regarding their medication upon discharge.

Procurement and inventory management sections

This section is responsible for procuring treatments within the center in cooperation with official suppliers, and the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA).

Research and staff development services

This section aims to develop the knowledge and skills of pharmacists in research to help in increasing the research productivity and quality in the pharmacy department. In addition, the section aims to ensure that all pharmacy staff have the required skills, knowledge and competencies necessary for providing comprehensive, safe and cost-effective pharmaceutical care.

The Center for Drug Policy and Technology Assessment (CDPTA)

This center is the first model for evaluating health technology in hospitals in the region, and aims to develop the rational use of drugs at KHCC by providing pharmacovigilance, drug information, drug use evaluation services, and improving patient safety and clinical outcomes.

Quality and auditing section services

This section performs quality assurance and continuous quality improvement projects and plans to enhance the quality and safety of pharmaceutical care delivered to patients in all settings.
